Nigerian singer Peter Okoye described the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a “big joke”.
The artist, better known as Mr. P, made the statement in a tweet Thursday, June 4, 2020 in his reaction to the approval of 27 billion naira for the renovation of the National Assembly complex in Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari had approved 37 billion naira for the renovation of the complex, a project which was built in 1999 at a cost of nearly $35.18 million.
The federal government then cut the budget from 37 billion naira for the renovation of the National Assembly complex to 27.7 billion naira. This has received much criticism, many people describe the Buhari administration as a kleptomaniac government.
“National Assembly that was built with N13.6 Billion , but would be renovated with N27 Billion.
This people have No Shame.
“How can shameless people have shame in this country, instead they keep increasing in their shamelessness. N27billion how? This My country is big Joke!,” Mr. Peter said.
Turning to citizens on Twitter, he asked:
#N27Bllion How many of you wish you were not born in this country right now? Because of our failed leaders!✋🏽
